Today the players never a chance to beat the better quality of the opposition. James Daly fought fiercely throughout the whole match in defence and attack but that was not enough to break Marple’s defence. The defenders (Jake Finn, Tom Rushton and Tom Cossey) tried hard as well, but they did not have their best day and were never quite able to protect the goal from Marple’s skilful forwards. On the wings, Billy Wright had a few good runs down the right, whereas both Harry Willoughby and Harry Wallbank struggled to impose themselves to their opposites. In attack, neither Daniel Twigg nor Fergus Ustinowski had clear chances to open the score. Finally, and despite the score, Danny O’Neal made a number of very decent saves which prevented Marple from scoring a few more goals. Overall, this first game showed that the team needs a lot of work, especially in tactical terms. However, the lads are eager to learn and there is a lot of time for improvement. Nothing to say about attitude and behaviour which was spot on.
